From the very first day we opened our doors over 35 years ago we made a commitment to excellence in service to people with disabilities, youth-at-risk and adults looking to improve their skills through life-long learning programs. It is our unwavering belief that within each one of us is the potential to improve our life far beyond our imagination. Whether a person with disabilities is looking to become an active, involved member of the community, a young person is trying to find direction for the future, or an adult is looking to learn a new marketable skill on which to build an exciting career, we are here to inspire, guide and help every step of the way. We do it because we are passionate about bringing out the best in every one we touch and making each Life Matter.1

At University Cap & Gown, we recognize that a respected and successful company is comprised of a staff inclusive of a variety of ability levels. The opportunity to provide on-the-job skills training and meaningful employment to youth and adults with special needs is a commitment we made decades ago, reinforced with our association with American Training.
The partnership between University Cap & Gown and American Training has provided solid and secure employment for adults with a variety of special needs. We are fortunate to have been able to develop positions to accomodate any limitations and strengths these employees may have.
When you receive your rental gown, it may have been pressed, folded and packaged by one of our American Training employees. When you receive your school or college's student or faculty order, it may have been packed by an American Training employee assigned to a team.
Although abilities may be varied and limited, each possess a level of skill combined with a commitment to the continued success of our operation and to the specific needs of our customers. We have found this commitment to be endless from each business day to the next.
When we were scheduled to receive an award for Employer of the Year from American Training in 2007, we asked our American Training staff to receive the award for us at the annual meeting. One declined saying "I don't want to go. Having this job is my award."
